Our Mission The Greater Sacramento Urban League, a traditionally African American organization, assists all people in achieving self-sufficiency and equality. We accomplish our mission through direct service, advocacy and education, and collaborative partnerships. Our HistoryFormed in 1968, the Greater Sacramento Urban League is an affiliate of the National Urban League and one of 105 affiliates located in 36 states nationwide. The organization is governed by a board of directors with broad community representation. GSUL is recognized by the State of California as an approved Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education institution. In 2000, the League built a state-of-the art workforce development and training center at 3725 Marysville Boulevard in the North Sacramento area. The all-new 28,000 square foot facility houses five computer labs, five classrooms, and over 100 computers operating on a local area network. GSUL has provided training to thousands of youth and adults from the urban communities surrounding Sacramento County. The organization's record of success is attributed to the countless collaborative relationships with individuals, communities, corporations and government agencies. GSUL has enjoyed longstanding and Successful relationships with the United Way, Intel, IBM, Wells Fargo Bank, Bank of America, Union Bank of California, US Bank, Washington Mutual, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, the County Department of Health and Human Services, the California Office of Family Planning, the Department of Education, Sacramento Employment and Training Agency (SETA), the California Employment Training Panel, the Department of Labor, Gateway Computers, and numerous other corporate and individual sponsors. |
