Housing Counseling

The Greater Sacramento Urban League Housing Counseling Center is a HUD-Approved housing counseling agency.

Our team of housing counselors have all been certified by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). All of our housing counseling services are offered either via phone or in-office, at no-charge, in both English and Spanish.

The Housing Counseling Center is located in our Empowerment Center at 3725 Marysville Blvd. Sacramento, CA 95838.

Pre-Purchase: Home Buying

Looking into purchasing a home and becoming a first time home buyer? Our HUD-Certified housing counselors can go over the steps to home buying, review income, affordability, rent vs. own analysis, monthly budget, credit scores, down payment assistance programs, and help put together an action plan as far as suggested next steps on your journey to becoming a homeowner!

They can help you compare and analyze these options that might be available and help you understand which would be the best fit for you.

Foreclosure Prevention Solutions

Are you behind on mortgage payments or anticipate missing a payment soon? Thinking about a loan modification? How long before my home is foreclosed? Our HUD-Certified Housing counselors are here to listen to your specific situation and help you explore different loss mitigation options. They are able to help with communication with your lender and agree on what the best option for you would be, to fully understand the entire foreclosure process.

Rental Counseling

Interested in applying for a rental to live on your own? Unsure on where to look for a rental or what to expect? What does a 3-day notice mean? Do we offer financial assistance? While we as a housing counseling agency do not provide financial assistance, our HUD-Certified housing counselors are able to guide you to the appropriate resources to help you as much as possible on your situation. If you are just looking into renting for the first time, we are able to help dig deeper into the rental process and determine how much rent you can afford, discuss any upfront fees, and create a workable monthly budget.

Homelessness Counseling

Are you currently homeless or fearful of becoming homeless in the near future? Our HUD Certified Housing counselors are able to direct you to local resources that will help you be more efficient in your housing search.
