GSUL’s Youth and Families Center (YFC) is locate

GSUL’s Youth and Families Center (YFC) is located in Oak Park and is the Community Incubator Lead. The work they’ve done has impacted the lives of over 1,200 youth and families in the #Sacramento region. They’ve hosted #community events like #toydrives, #youth #entrepreneur programs, and #basketball camps.

Our YFC Director, Ashley Bailey, enjoys serving the community because "It boosts positive change, fosters connections with others, and contributes to personal happiness and satisfaction." She and her team continue to enrich the lives of #youth and #families by supporting them in trying times and also #celebrating them in times of #happiness.

GSUL’s Health and Quality of Life Department (HQ

GSUL’s Health and Quality of Life Department (HQL) was formed as a response to COVID-19. Now their work has reached close to 100,000 people in addressing the #socialdeterminantsofhealth. Our community faces years of systemic inequities in the medical field, but we recognize the importance of both #physicalhealth and #mentalhealth and want to spread that message to our #community.

Program Manager Angela DeShields is deeply connected in getting this messaging across because "It can drive action at both the individual and societal levels, leading to better healthcare access, preventive measures, and support for those affected by health issues." Managing a team deeply rooted in the community, she and others work towards the promotion of #communityhealth.

GSUL’s Housing Counseling Center (HCC) helped se

GSUL’s Housing Counseling Center (HCC) helped secure over $1 million dollars for our community through California mortgage relief just this past year. Servicing over 1,300 clients in programs like #mortgagerelief, #rentalcounseling, and #prepurchase, our HCC team gets to help the community address their housing needs.

HCC’s Director, Michael Altobell, enjoys helping the community because “Achieving impactful results for those we serve is the most gratifying aspect of what we do. It drives us every day.” He was able to transform our HCC department in order to maximize their #impact on the community and provide aid in such a big concern for many people in our #community.

GSUL’s Workforce Development Team (WFD) has serviced over 1000 community members just this last year alone. With programs like #ResumeBuilding, #CareerAdvancement, and #Upskilling, our staff work to make sure individuals receive the quality and time it requires to be placed in meaningful employment.

Our Director, Dr. Del Meka Wyatt says her favorite part of serving the community is "Genuine connections formed and the satisfaction of knowing I’m contributing to something meaningful." And this work shows as she’s led her team in providing #jobfairs for the community, and #digitalupskilling for youth.
